Love and marriage go together like a horse and carriage, but politics and music? Not so much. And Miranda Lambert is determined to keep the two separate.

The reigning ACM Female Vocalist of the Year recently told Billboard that mixing politics and music is a recipe for making people angry. “It’s so divided [in politics], you can’t win anyway ā€“ and what are you winning?” she asked. “For someone to agree with you, and now you’ve spoken your piece and pissed off many other people, just for one person to go, ‘Sheā€™s right?’ It doesn’t do any good.”

For Miranda, music is supposed to be a respite. “I am a 100% believer in not ever using the platform that I’ve built for anything other than music, because music to me is an escape from your own reality,” she continued. “I don’t want to go to a show and hear somebody preach about their opinions.”

The revealing interview covered everything from her divorce from Blake Shelton to the lack of females on the radio, something that continues to frustrate the superstar. “It sucks,” she says in the story. “It makes me mad. You can print out any top chart, and you’ll see maybe a couple females, or not even one. I’m thankful for my spot headlining festivals. I’ve worked for it ā€“ but I shouldn’t be on a whole show with no girls.”

Miranda isn’t convinced things will stay that way, however, arguing that “it’s just a phase. “I think there was a time [for women] before, and there will be again, and that doesn’t stop any of us,” she continues. “I love country radio when they all play me, and when they don’t, I think that sucks.”
