Billy Ray Cyrus To Be Honored In Kentucky

Billy Ray Cyrus is headed for the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame.

The singer, actor and father of Miley Cyrus is from Flatwoods, Kentucky, a town of 7,300 in the far northeast corner of the state. "It's been a long journey since those days of growing up in Flatwoods," he says through his publicist. "For me, getting the chance to be inducted into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame just brings it all full circle."

Billy Ray picked up a guitar for the first time while in living in the tiny town, not long after he began singing at the ripe old age of four. He attended college on a baseball scholarship, but eventually turned his eyes toward music and subsequently dropped out to pursue it full time. Bill Ray signed his first record deal in 1990, releasing his first album two years later.

The Kentucky Music Hall of Fame & Museum honors Kentucky performers, songwriters, publishers, promoters, managers and other professionals who have made significant contributions to the music industry in the state. Billy Ray joins past inductees including Loretta Lynn and Bill Monroe. He joins five others in the honor, all of whom will be inducted May 11, 2018 at the Center For Rural Development in Somerset.
