The start of Hurricane Season got me to thinking the other day.  There are times in life that you can become very jaded.

Maybe the catalyst was the election of 2016, but I'm not sure. I just know that by the end of last summer, I've never felt like more people in our country were against one another in my life.

I had witnessed people in my own community turning down giving kids money for school fundraisers in rude ways. I mean, who does that?!

And then...Hurricane Harvey happened.

Full disclosure, I'm a native Texan; and as the saying goes, you can take the boy out of Texas, but you can't take the Texas out of the boy. The devastation to my home state in general, and my hometown of Houston in specific...well, even as I'm writing this, I have no words, but tears come to my eyes.

Anyway, I wanted to do something, my good friend "Big Sexy" at The New 1037/WSOC wanted to do something. And he REALLY got the ball rolling along with our Promotions Director, Chele Fassig.

What came together in a matter of hours was a marathon broadcast of ALL our Beasley Media Group/Charlotte stations (K-104.7, Kiss 95.1, Power 98, V-101.9 & The New 1037), during which we loaded up six Metrolina Greenhouse 18-wheelers full of 350 tons/$2.8 million in supplies for The Lone Star State.

Okay, Ramen's REALLY not that heavy

Ironically, we loaded them up in a DRIVING rainstorm (for the most part). It was easily one of the most rewarding days in my 28 years of broadcasting, and it restored my faith in my fellow man.

And that is wayyyyy more important.
