Released on July 3, 1985, the number one July 4th Movie Release of All Time is close to being a perfect movie:

  1.  Original idea-I mean having a time machine is one thing.  Having one that is a DeLorean that hits 85 mph?  BRILLIANCE
  2. GREAT creative team .  Writer/Director Robert Zemekis ("Forrest Gump") and Producer Steven Spielberg?  Please.
  3. Perfect casting.  The wonderfully zany, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson (what boy didn't love her?!), & Crispin Glover
  4. Relatable hero.  Michael J. Fox (at the time a TV star on NBC's "Family Ties") rocketed to superstardom with his everyman portrayal of Marty McFly-who seemed to be the wrong guy at the wrong place at the wrong time- really resonated with audiences

If you haven't guessed by now, our top film is the original "Back To The Future."  It was made for $17 million and wound up earning almost $384 million in worldwide box office-spawning two highly successful sequels.

And I can still hear Huey Lewis and the News' "Back in Time" playing in my memory as I write this.
