If anyone has played this game long enough, they have come across what I affectionately call a "goat ranch." This is a course that, although the layout is interesting, the maintenance budget of the course has NOT been what would be considered (no pun intended) "up to par."
You may have weeds of unknown origin and/or name, fairways that are more brown than green, and multiple patches on every hole "where grass just won't grow."
Some play and HATE these courses, I've always tended to play and then REALLY enjoy the challenge on your game that they provide.
For me, that course is "Cottonwood Creek" in Waco, Texas. Many a crazy round has been played with money won and lost in abundance.
From the overpowering lawn mowers in the beginnings, to the picnic tables in the end...this video is ALL CLASSIC!
And a reminder, my radio golf show, "Taking Dead Aim," airs tomorrow morning at 9am on 94.7 Smoke and at 10am is available in the Podcast section here, or you can subscribe to "Taking Dead Aim" at Apple Podcasts.
