IN SPACE – SEPTEMBER 12: In this satellite image provided by U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Hurricane Florence churns through the Atlantic Ocean toward the U.S. East Coast on September 12, 2018. Florence slowed its approach to the U.S. today and was forecast to turn south, stalling along the North Carolina and South Carolina coast and bringing with it torrential rain, high winds and a dangerous storm surge tomorrow through Saturday. Just an FYI  I saw from some folks who have gone through several hurricanes in their lives.  In case you are in need of water and having trouble finding it,  use gallon zip type bags and freeze them standing up.  It will give you good drinking water cheaper than a case of water.
It also works to keep other foods cold longer in case of outages.
Others also suggest making sure you put down some cardboard underneath the bags so they don't sink in and around the racks of the freezer shelves and become lodged.
Filling the bath tub with water for flushing toilets is also a good tip.
Other tips include bringing in those solar garden lights that line your sidewalk to use as light source at night in case of power loss.  They can be recharged during daylight hours in the window.  And if you put them behind a jug of water it will spread light through the whole room.
Of course, be ready with canned goods, and take care of those pets.  Remember they need food and water, too.
