Unlike A LOT of people I tend to be around and play golf with, I am far from a golf snob.  In fact, one of my favorite things is to be playing a public/municipal golf course that may not even be in good condition, but I see some real genius in design or potential (if so money could just be invested).

For example, Charles T. Myers Golf Course is a place that, if all the sudden I won a lottery, I'd be very tempted to clean up and renovate a bit.  I will always maintain that there's a hidden gem being hidden by some finacial shortcomings there.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to get to is that there is some really good golf to be had in the Charlotte area that isn't private and won't cost you an arm and a leg.

One of my favorite public courses (that is always in good shape) is Eagle Chase Golf Club in Marshville.  For those that rarely venture out of the Charlotte bubble, Marshville is just past Wingate on HWY 74.

Two weeks ago (less than a week after Hurricane Florence POUNDED the area and flooded the course), we went to play ECGC.  Portions shown on this video were literally underwater five days earlier.  The course was in really good condition.

This is a place that is low on pretentiousness, and greens fee costs, but high on fun.  I hope you enjoy this and venture out to Marshville to give Eagle Chase a go sometime.

And a reminder, if you like golf, you'll like my weekly golf radio show and Podcast, "Taking Dead Aim."  It airs on Saturday mornings at 9 on 94.7 Smoke/AM 1660 or is available at 10 via Apple Podcasts or by clicking on the link below.
