Everyone has lottery fever these days, and we get more feverish with each passing day.  The jackpot climbs higher and higher, but so do the odds against you or someone you know actually pocketing the fortune of a lifetime.

The estimated Mega Millions jackpot as of right now is around $900 million, and the Powerball is hovering around the $345 million mark.  It's fun to play and dream of what you might do with such a windfall.  But, just remember to play responsibly and keep in mind the odds are against you.  I don't mean to rain on your parade, but here are a few things that might actually be more likely to happen to you than winning the lottery.  It's more likely you will win an Oscar or an Olympic gold medal.  It's also more likely you will give birth to identical quadruplets or be crushed by a vending machine.  Have you every dreamed of becoming President of the United States?  It might happen before you win a lottery.  Watch out when strolling in your neighborhood.  You might get hit by a piece of debris falling from a passing airplane or knocked out and killed by a coconut.  Two things that are also more likely to happen than winning the lottery.  Think you're pretty good-looking?  Chances are better  you'll date a supermodel than the odds of a lottery win.   And for all you parents out there who think your child is gifted...well, it's more likely you'll discover he or she is a genius than it is likely you'll wake up a multi-millionaire from a lottery win.  That being said, we will definitely be buying tickets along with the rest of you.  After all, why let a little thing like mathematical odds get in the way of a dream?
