Why are people angry at a man proposing to his girlfriend as she ran the New York City marathon?

It was Kaitlyn Curran's first-ever marathon Sunday.  Her boyfriend, Dennis Galvin, was camped out around the 16-mile mark waiting for her arrival.  She spotted him and ran over to say hello.  At that moment he dropped to one knee and took out a ring and proceeded to propose.  She was certainly surprised.  Kaitlyn accepted the proposal, and the couple hugged.  Dennis placed the ring on her finger, and she joined back up with the runners to complete the race.  It's a moment she'll never forget, and some might consider it romantic.  However, the video went viral and caught quite a bit of flack.  People considered it selfish, saying he stole her thunder.  They questioned why he couldn't wait until the finish line, since causing her to pause afffected her time.  I'm not sure how Kaitlyn feels about the timing of the big question, but, they had been dating 4 years.  So, if he finally got the courage to propose, I say don't put the brakes on that!  If so, it may never happen.  Am I right?  I don't run...ever...but I'll tell you one thing...if  you've patiently waited for the big question to come, you'll take it however you can get it.  There will always be another race.  What do you say?  Selfish or romantic?
