Katherine MacGregor Dies: ‘Little House On The Prairie’ Actress Was 93

Little House On The Prairie star, Katherine MacGregor has died. “Scottie” as she was affectionately known as, played Harriet Oleson, mother to “Nellie”. Nellie and Mrs. Oleson were bullies to the Ingalls and served as a perfect mother-daughter duo.

MacGregor grew up in Colorado and relocated to New York, where she was a theater hit, she then moved to California in 1954 and appeared on television shows, "Ironside," "Emergency!" and "Mannix."

It was Little House On The Prairie that defined her career, as Mrs. Oleson she tried to find ways to layer the meanness, "Anyone that mean has to be a fool," she said. "So I began mixing farce into it,” MacGregor once told the Santa Cruz Sentinel.

Co-Star Melissa Gilbert took to her Instagram in honor of MacGregor, "The thing people outside of our prairie family didn’t know, was how loving and nurturing she was with the younger cast." Gilbert wrote.

MacGregor died while living at the Motion Picture Fund Long-Term Nursing Care facility in Woodland Hills, California at the age of 93.
