Kane Brown is arguably the hottest young star in country music today.
He is also bi-racial (he has an African-American father and caucasian mother). In days gone by, this would have been a HUGE deal and a block on the road to success that he wouldn't have been able to overcome.
Thankfully, country music and the people that love it have evolved. If you can sing, if you can entertain, then no one cares.
When you tell me the world is becoming color blind, that's a good thing.
For Kane Brown, this has not always been the case. He told People "I was 7 or 8 years old I thought I was full white, which honestly, I can’t even really say because I didn’t see colors. I found out that I was biracial and I still wasn’t thinking anything of it, but then I started getting called the n-word. I didn’t even know what it meant. I learned what it meant, and that’s when it started affecting me. I got in fights over it when I was little.”
Kids can be so cruel. However, it wasn't just kids in Kane's life.
“When I first got into country, I started getting some of those comments like ‘He’s an N-word.’ Stuff like that. I used to screenshot it and put it on Twitter, like ‘There’s still racism in the world.’ But I didn’t get into country music just to prove a point. I try to stay away from all negativity … Now you can call me whatever you want. It just brushes off of me.”
Last month, Kane was named Favorite Country Male Artist at the American Music Awards.
Let me correct myself. When you tell me the world-specifically the music world-is becoming color blind, that's NOT a good thing.
It's a GREAT thing!
