I get that Johnny Depp's personal life has become constant fodder for tabloids, but I don't know if this is necessary.

I look at it this way: if you make a "James Bond" movie, you have to have "James Bond." If you make a "Jaws" movie, you have to have a shark. And if you have a "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, you HAVE to have "Jack Sparrow," right?

Apparently not.

Disney has announced the reboot of the "Pirates" franchise WILL NOT include Johnny Depp or the character.

Further, in an interview with Disney’s film production chief Sean Bailey, he expressed confidence that the series didn’t need Depp to succeed.

“We want to bring in a new energy and vitality,” Bailey said. “I love the [Pirates] movies, but part of the reason Rhett and Paul (Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick-writers of the reboot), are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that’s what I’ve tasked them with.”

Wait, it gets more interesting.

No official details have been released, but apparently the next movie's protagonist will be a female pirate named, "Redd," who was recently added to the Pirates rides at Disney Parks.
