OMG...you can now "fat shame" something that is not even human?!
Monterey Bay Aquarium has had to apologize for refferring to an "Otter" as "thick" on Twitter.
Here's the deal. An abnormal sized otter, named Abby, was posted on Twitter by the aquarium and the caption has fallen under fire.
In the caption words like “thick,” "chonk," and "an absolute unit,” were used, and in the beginning people laughed.
Then on Wednesday, things took a turn.
People said the words used were inappropriately taken from African American Vernacular English (AAVE), even calling it “digital blackface.” “AAVE isn't a meme for white consumption," said a professor who responded to the post.
UGH! Really?! It's an otter!!!!
The Monterey Bay Aquarium apologized for the post and the use of the insensitive language, then people got upset because the aquarium apologized but they stood their ground, "We're also thankful for those of you out there pointing out our blind spots and how we can improve. Thanks, everyone,” the aquarium tweeted to its followers
Do I just have too many REAL things to worry about in my life? Am I insensitve because I not only don't care, but do not want to throw stones at the aquarium?
Again...IT'S AN OTTER!!!
