Did You Get Kissed At Midnight?

It’s a tradition as old as time itself:  The New Year’s Eve kiss at midnight. Have you ever wondered “Why?” or “How this got started?” Well, according to English and German…

NEW YORK, NY – JANUARY 1: A couple kiss during celebrations at Times Square on January 1, 2016 in New York City. At least 6,000 police officers were deployed, including rooftop snipers, canine units and air and water patrols, in and around Times Square in Manhattan. Mayor Bill de Blasio declared New York to be “the best prepared city to prevent terrorism and to deal with any event that could occur.” (Photo by Eduardo Munoz Alvarez/Getty Images)

It's a tradition as old as time itself:  The New Year's Eve kiss at midnight.

Have you ever wondered "Why?" or "How this got started?"

Well, according to English and German folklore, the first person you encounter on New Year's Day will dictate good or bad fortune ahead. So, kissing your partner may seem like a good idea.

Then again, this may be why Debbie wasn't so hot on the idea. ;)

There are other tales that lead back to those crazy Romans who used to throw some wild parties where A LOT more than kissing was going on, so perhaps a midnight peck is more appropriate.

Now here's a completely different take.  During the Renaissance, people would lift their masks at midnight to rid themselves of evil with a kiss.

Who knew.

Maybe that was what eventually led Deb to let me kiss her?

Look, a kiss is never a bad thing.  So, find that someone you love and get it done early today!
