Home Decor Hack: Is Your Family Room Arranged Correctly?

Are You Arranging Your Furniture Correctly? Yes, you have furniture, but is it working in the space where you put it? Maybe these tips will help you. How about these…

CARY, NC – MARCH 9: The front room of the Lily Pond design model homes is shown in Martha Stewart’s Twin Lakes Community on March 9, 2005 in Cary, North Carolina. The front room is modeled on a country retreat style inspired by Martha’s beach cottage which is located on the eastern shore of Long Island. Twin Lakes is the first of several communities that KB Home and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. will build and design across the U.S. The exterior of the homes have characteristics similar to homes lived in by Martha Stewart in New York and Maine. The interiors feature many design elements chosen by Martha and her design team. The community will eventually feature about 650 homes ranging from 1,500 to 4,100 square feet, and priced from $200k to the mid $400k. (Photo by Sara D. Davis/Getty Images)

Are You Arranging Your Furniture Correctly? Yes, you have furniture, but is it working in the space where you put it? Maybe these tips will help you.

  • Each room should have a focal point. That can be a big television, nice-sized piece of art or maybe a fireplace.
  • You need to have conversation areas. Chairs shouldn't be facing away from each other. Sitting areas shouldn't be too far away from each other. You want to be able to have close conversations and not shout across the room.
  • Don't push your furniture all the way against the wall. Give it some space to make the room look bigger.
  • Also, don't put too much furniture in one place. The fewer pieces you have in one room will help the room feel more spacious.

How about these ideas? Are you guilty of any of these things on the list?
