There comes that moment in your life, when your parents can no longer shield you from the bad things, and as an adult you learn that not everything is red roses, white picket fences, and happy endings

Taylor Swift is about to turn 30 (gulp! We met her when she was 15). In a very intersting piece she's penned for the April issue of Elle, Swift writes of 30 things she's learned as she approached her 30th birthday.

Among these life lessons...learning to cope with love ones being seriously ill.

"I've had to learn how to handle serious illness in my family," the singer said.

"Both of my parents have had cancer, and my mom is now fighting her battle with it again."

Swift went on to explain that her parents, Andrea and Scott, suffering from the disease has helped put everything else into perspective.
