"Lizzie Maguire" Star Enlists In Army

Carly Schroeder is trading fame for fatigues. The actress, best known for her portrayal of "Melina Bianco" on the Disney Channel's "Lizzie McGuire" has enlisted in the Army.

“I’ve been considering it for a while and it is a big choice, but thankfully my parents and my little brother were very supportive of me,” Schroeder, 28, told TMZ on Wednesday. “My dad was actually in the Army. He was a Green Beret medic, and my little brother Hunter, he’s in the Marines now.”

Schroeder cites her work with veterans and advocacing for human trafficking victims was the impetus for her decision.

Addtionally, she's already taken part in  numerous training courses and is interested in perhaps a career in military intelligence after she completes Officer Candidate School.

Schroeder has documented her military training on her Instagram account with guns blazing.
