FCC Warns Of “One Ring” Robocallers

Funny Wake-Up Call: Speaking of waking up, if your child uses their cell phone as an alarm, call their phone a la a hotel wake-up call, and have a funny message ready. Sure…they may be a bit groggy and grumpy, but we guarantee they’ll look back on the wake-up call as a funny memory.

Well, that is what the latest in robocall scammers is hoping.
They are hoping you'll be so alarmed that you will call the number back and then they have you in their trap!
It's called the "One Ring" or the "Wangiri" scam.
The robocallers target specific area codes in bursts and often calls multiple times in the middle of the night. Then they hang up after one or two rings.
The goal is to get you so freaked out that you call the number back which results in a toll being paid to the scammer.
The calls come from a 222 or 223 country code which belongs to the West African countries of Mauritania and Sierra Leone.
To be safe, if you do not make international calls ask your phone company to block outgoing international calls on your line!
