There is so much to admire, feel awful about, and yet be inspired by this story. 17-year-old Paige Winters was swimming yesterday off Atlantic Beach on the North Carolina Coast.

She was then attacked by a shark.

Her father Charlie, a 20-year marine veteran, and paramedic burst into action-saving his daughter from this life-threatening attack by punching the shark five times on the nose until it released her.

Paige Winters wound up losing several fingers and the majority of her left leg, but her injuries could have been fatal if not for her father.

According to her mother, Marcy, “Paige is out of surgery and awake. She’s still pretty groggy but cracking jokes. She wants everyone to know that sharks are still good people.”

Just a "wow" story all-around, right?
