The seemingly dead snakes are very alive and ready to prank those who approach.
There are six venomous species in NC that one should fear, including rattlesnakes and copperheads.
But there's a new snake in town that people need to be aware of.
The eastern hognose snake grows up to 4 feet and is “famous” for playing dead when the mood strikes it.
They are nonvenomous and rarely bite, but they could be brutal for the faint of heart when they come back to life.
N.C. State Parks and Recreation posted to social media photos of the snake flipped over on its back, looking perfectly dead.
