Following in the footsteps of the Oscar awards, the Emmys will not have a host this year.
According to Los Angeles Times, Fox Entertainment Chief Charlie Collier explains that this decision allows the show to devote more time to honor the “robust batch of TV series that have ended their run in the last year.” This includes shows like Game of Thrones, The Big Bang Theory, and Veep.
Collier also adds, “If you have a host and an opening number, that’s 15 minutes you can’t use to salute the shows.”
Collier explains that even though there will be no hosts, the show will still be entertaining. “There will be entertainment, there will be an opening number. I love that the producers are so thoughtfully approaching these choices. There will be many surprises, and it will be entertaining.”
The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards will be on Fox on September 22.
