Horror Movie Icon Passes
I have sort of a love/hate relationship with Rob Zombie. I am not, nor ever will be a fan of his music (although, obviously there are millions who would disagree with this choice).
As a filmmaker, I liked and admired his take on the Halloween franchise. His “Halloween” and its sequel rebooted the origin, and provided some backstory that was missing from the John Carpenter originals. That being said, there was an undertone of pure evil in them that is very disturbing.
This evil is not subtle at all in his trilogy: “House of 1000 Corpses,” “The Devil’s Rejects,” and the recently released “3 From Hell.” All three of these cult classic featured actor Sid Haig (pictured above with Zombie) as the murderous clown, “Captain Spaulding.”
I would include video for you here, but I couldn’t find ANY that had language that was remotely non-offensive. So if you want to refresh your memory on this character, you’ll have CLICK HERE at your own risk.
Anyway, Sid Haig passed away over the weekend at age 80. His wife released the news through this touching post.
Haig was more than just a horror actor though, he had nearly 150 acting credits to his resume, spanning nearly 60 years.
He always seemed to play the “bad guy.” I remember him from “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century” as “Spiros” and mostly as “Dragos” on “Jason of Star Command,” a Saturday morning series from the 1970s.

Prayers to his family.
