Bernie Sanders’ Daughter-in-Law Dies at 46

The daughter-in-law of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has died at the age of 46 -- just two days after she was diagnosed with cancer.

Dr. Rainè Riggs, the wife of 50-year-old Levi Sanders, succumbed to neuroendocrine cancer on Monday, the family announced. She'd just learned of the diagnosis on Saturday -- the same day Bernie Sanders returned to Vermont after suffering a heart attack last week.

An obituary written by the family says Riggs was "a truly selfless person" who was "heavily involved in working with the homeless." It goes on to say, "I don't know how our family will ever get over this loss as she was loved so much. I do know that we will continue on because we have to ... we promised her we would."
