I guess we're just weird.  Debbie and I are very secure in our faith and confident in the environment we've raised/continue to raise our son.

Therefore, I don't have issue with ANYTHING that is portrayed in a movie, because well...it's a movie.  It has NO IMPACT on my or my family's reality whatsoever.

I first saw this post on Facebook this weekend, and let it go.  However, I've got to get something off my chest now.

I have not seen "The Addams Family," although I plan to.  I am very excited to see that it is animated on the big screen as for the first time, the true vision of satirical, macabre cartoonist Charles Addams can be realized.  If you saw the 1960s TV show, the Saturday morning cartoon based on that show, or the two movies in the 1990s, you only got a taste of what the initial cartoon strip was about.

Anyway, "The Addams Family" has proven to be a monster hit, scaring up more than $57 million in ticket sales, however, at least one moviegoer wasn't on board with the animated film's humorous take on the creepy characters.
Christian hip hop artist Bryann Trejo says he was appalled at the "inappropriate" film's casual depictions of demons and Ouija boards -- so much so, he's now spearheading a boycott of the flick.

OMG (we'll let the G here stand for "gosh" so tender Bryann doesn't lose it over this post)!

This ridiculous attitude and reaction isn't just inappropriate, I bet it's hypocrititcal too.  Now I don't know this to be a fact (and if I'm wrong, I'll apologize-I doubt I am tho, I know the type), but I'd be willing to bet Bryann Trejo has ZERO problem with Disney movies playing in his home or taking his kids to Disney World.  I bet he would let his children watch the animated "Sleeping Beauty" and "Cinderella" on an endless loop if they desired.

Do you know what these two movies have?  Witches conjuring spells, purposeful poisoning (ie attempted murder), inanimate objects possessed by evil spirits, sorcerers waving wands and casting spells on people and things.  You can call a "Fairy Godmother" whatever you want to call her...if she's waving a wand and casting spells, she's not going to be found on the good side of God in the book of Exodus.

We used to run into this attitude ALL THE TIME when our son was in a Christian elementary school when it came to his love of "Harry Potter" movies.  We were looked upon as servants of the Dark Lord because we let him watch and be entertained by these films with us.  Yet parents that took their kids out of school to go to Disney World to monetarily worship that "witchcraft" were glowing examples of acceptability.

See the double-standard yet?

Here's my point.  You're either all-in or you're not.  If you agree with this rapper's stance-GREAT.  Just be completely against ALL artistic depictions of these things.

Or you can be like us:  secure in your faith, a responsible parent pointing out fantasy and make-believe to your children, and able to be entertained by art and not selectively offended.
