Wow…no sooner did one legendary, Hollywood tough guy pass away, than we lose another within hours, it seems.
Robert Conrad was a HUGE TV star. If the only “Wild, Wild, West” you are aware of is the God-awful movie version starring Will Smith, then do yourself a favor and track down an episode or two of this fantastic show from the 1960s. I used to LOVE to watch it in reruns as a boy
In the height of “James Bond” mania, Conrad starred at “James West,” a goverment agent in the Old West with Bond-like gadgets and charisma.
He went on to star as real-life WWII pilot, Greg “Pappy” Boyington in “Baa Baa Black Sheep” (later renamed “Black Sheep Squadron).
He had many more TV appearances throughout his 6 decade career. However, to me and countless others who grew up in the late 1970s and 1980s, he was the Everyready Battery tough guy who “Dared you to knock it off.”
Robert Conrad passed away in his home over the weekend, surrounded by family, at age 84.
