If you're wanting to take a day trip to get away from the Queen City without breaking the bank, just head to Waxhaw! Why Waxhaw? Here's why...

With charming antique shops, coffee shops/restaurants, and streets with beautiful views, Waxhaw should definitely be on your radar when considering taking a day trip. It’s a 45-minute drive from Charlotte and almost everything is walking distance right on the city’s main street. Charlotte Agenda has come up with a list of things you can do while visiting the historic town, but here are 7 of our favorites:

1.) Visit the Waxhaw Farmers’ Market during the summer

The farmers’ market in Waxhaw has tons of fresh produce, artisan breads, local honey, grass-fed beef, local eggs, and flowers. The market is open from 9 am-1 pm on most Saturdays of the year. Be sure to check the website for exact dates before heading out there.

It’s like an ice cream shop with a variety of flavors and toppings, except it’s all cookie dough. Sign me up.

3.) Channel your inner historian at the Museum of the Waxhaws

For $5 per adult and $2 a child, you can learn more about Waxhaw’s history dating all the way back to the 1600s, tour a historic home, and check out the grounds.

4.) Enjoy Music Bingo while drinking a beer at Dream Chaser’s Brewery

This brewery once served as a fire station, how cool is that?! Now its the home of music bingo on Tuesday nights from 7-9 pm, trivia on Wednesday from 7-9 pm, and the occasional build-your-own mimosa bar on Sundays! If none of those suits your fancy, just go to enjoy the weather and an ice-cold beverage!

5.) Hungry? Make a pit stop at South Main Street Barbecue

You can never go wrong with barbecue, am I right? If you order the platter, it comes with your choice of meat, a side, and cornbread. Heads up, the mac & cheese is out of this world.

6.) Connect with your thrifty side and visit the Used Book Store and Antique Mart

Looking for a vintage book to dive into? Maybe you collect old records or you just love fun knick-knacks. If so, these two stores are perfect for you. Being an antiquer myself, I had to see what all the hype was about and I fell in love.

7.) Walk across the historic Waxhaw bridge

It’s right over the railroad tracks and is a HUGE part of the area’s historic charm. It shows off the best view of downtown too!
