It's my favorite day...Moe Monday! On Mondays, you can get Burritos or Bowls, Chips and Salsa for just $5.99. Busy families like us love the great price and being able to customize our dishes the way we want. I'm the kind of mom who knows what I want. Now it's time for my Moe's Mom Hack of the week. Our son is 18 now, and he's about to graduate high school and go off to college. But I'll never forget that "tweener" stage we were faced with a few years ago. He was old enough to stay at home alone for a few hours after school while we were at work. But, he was too young to drive. So, basically, he was pretty much stuck at the house unless a friend's parent or older sibling toted them around.
Since we didn't get home until almost 8 p.m., he would usually want dinner before then. I tried several days a week to cook something before I went to work and leave for him to reheat in a microwave, but sometimes, he wanted food that wasn't a reheated leftover.
Fair enough.
With my love of cooking, I put my know-how to work. I took a few of his favorites like tacos, pizza, grilled cheese and cookies (LOL), and wrote simple instructions to make the dishes. I searched and found fun pictures to include with each recipe. I used a pic of "Buddy Elf" from the movie on the cookie recipe. I used a stock photo of Marlon Brando as the Godfather for the pizza recipe...to make it a little tongue and cheek! But anyway, by the time I was done, I had a homemade cookbook that I stuck on the fridge so it was available for him to refer to any time he needed. And of course, we went over safety and made sure he was good to go using a stove properly. It all worked out just fine.
Now he can drive himself to Moe's, but who knows...maybe I'll pack his "cookbook" somewhere for him to discover when he unpacks his things in his first apartment!
