NOW things have gone too far and I've got to say something.
A new Gallup poll's results find that American pride levels are at their lowest since Gallup started asking about it in 2001. Only 42% of those polled said they are "extremely proud" to be an American while 21% said they are "very proud". Only 1/5 of all U.S. adults aged 18-29 said they were "extremely proud" to be American.
The poll, consisting of Americans from all 50 states, found that 15% of Americans surveyed are "moderately proud" while 9% are "not proud at all" to be American.
STOP IT!
Anyone who tells you, or leads you to the conclusion that you SHOULD NOT be proud to be an American, needs to re-examine his/her position.
Look, I'm not saying there are not things to be upset about:
-You can be upset with your national and state leaders and they way they conduct themselves or handle the situations before them. Good Lord knows I am.
BUT in America, you can speak with your vote and remove them from office. Ask the Chinese people if they'd like that option.
-You can be upset with race relation progress or lack thereof.
BUT in America, as difficult as it can be, we come together and work through our differences. We always have, we always will. It can and will be rocky, but we get it done. Why? Because there is NO ONE who doesn't want this.
Find me ONE PERSON who is in favor of the way the George Floyd incident played out? I would say, "I'll wait," but then I'd NEVER get this blog done.
There once was a country called Yugoslavia. Look it up. There were two factions/races (Croats and Muslims) that could not get along or come together. It didn't just cause a civil war, the country no longer exists. Ask those people if they wouldn't want a do over.
I'm proud to be an American. I hold my head high. I have members of my family who fought for this country. They fought for my right to be upset. They fought for my ability to be able to resolve my country's issues with my fellow citizens.
You can be upset, but the fact that YOU CAN BE UPSET-AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, is the reason you must always be proud to be a citizen of the greatest country the world has ever seen.
God bless America and all who live in her.
