Before I tell you this story just a reminder that if you or someone you know has a baby that is unwanted at birth, that child will be wanted by someone.  North and South Carolina has safe surrender laws.  That child can be turned over to first responders , social workers or health care providers and will be well cared for.

There was a mom in Wilmington that did not make that choice.  Instead she threw her newborn in a trash can and would have surely died if it wasn't for Cynthia Burton.  Cynthia was walking her dog Flounder when she heard a cry that sounded like it was coming from a trash can.  Cynthia was in the right place at the right time.  The chord was wrapped around the child's neck but is now doing fine thanks to Cynthia's quick thinking.
