The Godfather and The Godfather II are widely regarding as the best movie/sequel combination in cinematic history. Each won the Academy Award for Best Picture and made stars of Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert DeNiro, Robert Duvall and Talia Shire while solidifying Marlon Brando's status as one of the finest actors of his generation.
Then, roughly twenty years later, Director Francis Ford Coppola and writer Mario Puzo went to the well again with The Godfather Part III. Although nominated again for best picture, it was never regarded as highly as its predecessors, and in fact, panned as a failure by some critics.
Now, twenty years AFTER THAT release, Coppola returns to attempt to right where he may have gone wrong. Coming to Theaters in December, Paramount Pictures will release a new edit with a different ending and restoration of The Godfather III.
Paramount said the new edit is the original vision Francis Ford Coppola and screenwriter Mario Puzo had for the movie. Francis Ford Coppola oversaw every aspect of the restoration to make sure his personal standards and directorial vision were met.
As The Godfather movies are among our favorites of all-time, we can't wait!
