Tanner In The Morning

Weekdays 5:00AM - 10:00AM

Most professional sports have been experiencing a slight decline in TV viewers.

So everybody was wondering how the NFL would do with a pandemic and the social unrest in the nation. The overnight TV ratings are in. Looks like the NFL fumbled its season opener between the Super Bowl winning Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans.

The Thursday night game captured an estimated 16.4 million viewers. 16% lower than 2019’s league kickoff. The Washington Examiner reports the ratings hit a 10-year low for both the NFL and NBC.

Did viewers click elsewhere because of social justice protesting? Maybe fans just weren’t interested in this matchup?  How worried should the league be?
