Who thinks this is a good idea?
So currently you must be 18 to vote, but if this city passes this proposal passes, 16 and 17-year-olds will be able to vote in municipal elections.
It would make San Francisco the first major U.S. city to do so.
Those in favor say lowering the voting age would instill a lifelong habit of voting.
Here is what the website Vote16SF says “lowering the voting age can lead to a long-term increase in voter turnout, bringing more citizens in touch with their government and pushing the government to better serve its people.”
Really? Just my opinion but sounds like a ploy to dangle free stuff in front of young people’s eyes for a vote. Sorry if you can’t sign a legal contract, don’t have to worry about property taxes, you don’t take part in making these decisions. How do you feel?
