I'm not a painter. In fact, when it comes to art, I'm pretty much a disaster. Growing up, this was a great source of embarrassment as my father is an artist (professional photographer), who could not only create magic with his camera, but with his bare hands and a pencil as well.

Anyway, because art is not on my radar, I've never understood the fasciation with Bob Ross. I've always just found him stunningly creepy. Which makes me wonder how the Japanese people feel about Harumichi Shibasaki.

This grandfatherly painter is starting to go viral on YouTube with his creating, studying and teaching the art of oil and watercolor paintings.

A few years ago, his son convinced him to share his talent online. Shibasaki, 73, decided to follow his son’s advice. Beginning in March 2017 he launched his YouTube channel, "Watercolor by Shibasaki," where he has since garnered over 679,000 subscribers and more than 28.4 million total views. In January he started a TikTok account where he has now amassed approximately 30,000 followers.

I wonder if the Japanese find him creepy?  I think he's fantastic.
