Klete Keller is one of those names that may be in the back of your mind when you hear it. You know, someone says, "Klete Keller," and you think, "Where do I know that guy from?"
And it drives you crazy all day.
There are so many names like that, and so many of them (for me anyway) come from watching the summer or winter Olympic Games. They introduce you to these people and for a couple of weeks, you follow their exploits, and then "POOF," they fade from public consciousness. We, as a nation become obsessed with swimming and gymnastics for those two weeks and then...well, we'll see you again in four years.
Anyway, that's what happened to me yesterday when I heard Klete Keller was charged for his participation in last week's insurrection of the US Capitol. He competed in three Olympics beginning in 2000, and according to USA Today earned five medals overall, including golds in 2004 and 2008.
Now, he must add to his list of public deeds the unfortunate charges of obstructing law enforcement engaged in official duties, incident to civil disorder, knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
