It's hard to believe it's been more than 3 years now since the world lost Tom Petty.  His death affected me more than I ever would have imagined it would.  There's something about losing someone who you paid money to see perform.  It's happened again recently with Eddie Van Halen's passing (can't talk about that one yet), but Petty's passing was the first like this for me.

I was in high school and Tom Petty (along with his band The Heartbreakers) were playing at Southern Star Amphitheater at Astroworld (think Carowinds...only in Houston).  And in a weird deal, they were actually the opening act.  Bob Dylan followed.  Only, TP & the HBs not only played their 90 minute set, but then came back and served as Dylan's backing band.  It was a great night of music.

Anyway, there's a new Tom Petty Documentary To Premiere Next Month.  "Somewhere You Feel Free" is set to premiere next month as part of SXSW Online.

The doc follows Petty during the making of his landmark 1994 album Wildflowers, including a "newly discovered archive" of 16mm footage of Petty in the studio.  "Somewhere You Feel Free" is one of 57 films that will premiere during SXSW Online from March 16-20.  More details, including when it will air, are coming soon.

Can't. Wait.
