He is the longest serving spouse of a sitting monarch in the thousands of years of British history and his watch over the Queen of England is finally over. Prince Phillip, husband of Queen Elizabeth 2, has passed away at the age of 99.
I realize we fought a war to NOT have a royal family here but the history and spectacle of the monarchy has always fascinated me. I don’t think there is a show or documentary out there about them that I have not seen.
He spent just about a month in the hospital recovering from a heart procedure and had been trying to recover at home. He spent 65 years of his life supporting the queen and retired from public service in 2017.
He and the queen are actually third cousins if memory serves. He is also a Greek prince and a descendant of Queen Victoria. Over the years the Queen acknowledged Phillip’s deep influence calling him her “strength and stay”. He is credited for helping to modernize the monarchy.
While shows like “The Crown” don’t always portray him in the greatest light as a husband, no one can deny that he has been faithful to the “job” for a very long time.
