Well, good news! This weekend’s World Cow Chip Throwing Championship in Beaver, Oklahoma IS back! The contest has been held in the Oklahoma panhandle town since 1969. Around 100 souls will make the trek to Beaver to compete. In addition to seasoned, local "pros," the competition features “VIP throwers” — celebrities, politicians, and various guests. Additionally, there's an accompanying week-long festival offering other entertainment: a parade, talent show, carnival, chili cook-off, a live concert, and more!
Sadly, another fantastically American (and Southern) event: The World Grits Festival in Saint George, South Carolina, will not be held this year. Typically held in April, we will once again be deprived of the festival's famous (or infamous) "Grits Eating Championship."
