Meat Loaf Songwriter Jim Steinman At 73 Producer and songwriter Jim Steinman has died at the age of 73. Steinman is best known for his collaborations with Meat Loaf, writing all of the singer's iconic 1977 album Bat Out Of Hell as well as later hits like "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Wont' Do That)".
He also wrote hits for other artists, including Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and Air Supply's "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" - Not bad for a guy who was once told by record mogul Clive Davis "You don't know how to write a song... have you ever listened to pop music?" And I know that the Bonnie Tyler song was the official "slow dance" song when I was in 8th grade.
His death came suddenly as emergency services were summoned to his home in the early hours of Monday morning in Connecticut. Steinman was 73.
