I've always been fascinated by Elizabeth Olsen.  Twenty years ago, she was "the other Olsen sister"-the younger sibling of twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.  Those two carved out an unbelievably profitable career as child actresses on the ABC show, "Full House" and in a series of direct-to-video movie releases.  Additionally, they made a fortune in the fashion industry.  It was thought at the time that there was no way Elizabeth could ever escape their shadow-in fact, she even thought about changing her name in an attempt to do so.  Turns out, there was no need.  She's had a fantastic career in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and in other roles including a multi-award-nominated turn in "Martha Marcy May Marlene."  Recently she wrapped up a highly successful run on Disney+ playing her Scarlet Witch Avengers character in "WandaVision."

It was during promotion for this show's debut that Olsen disappeared from social media.  It was thought at the time that this was in response to her lack of promptness in some people's eyes, when it came to commenting on her fellow "Avenger," Chadwick Boseman's death.  In recent comments, this appears to be confirmed.

“The whole thing just made me uncomfortable and it’s not even like I was really paying attention to comments or anything, I just felt weird how it organized my brain, like, if something happened in the world, I would say, ‘Oh, do I have to post about this?’.  I think it’s very dangerous to think, ‘Oh, something just happened in the world. I am an entitled person whose voice must be heard on this issue’, and I just think that is such a narcissistic viewpoint that we’re all a part of, like, it made us all live in this weird narcissistic cycle. During the pandemic, I was like, ‘Oh, well. you know what, this just is not for me’, and I just got rid of it and I won’t go back. I’m never going back to social media.”

Who can blame her or any celebrity for bailing on social media.  It seems like you are damned if you do and damned if you don't, so why bother?  I keep harkening back to Lady Gaga's brilliant observation regarding social media's place.
