Elephants once used to a very different life are now starting to arrive at a wildlife sanctuary in north Florida. The White Oak Conservation Center announced this week that a dozen female Asian elephants have already arrived in Jacksonville.
There are more coming. Up to 20 more elephants are expected once more areas are completed at the planned 2,500 acre space. Most of these elephants once worked with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus until their retirement in 2016.
Their new habitat sounds lovely. They will have access to areas with a variety of vegetation , wetlands, meadows and woods. The center will also have 11 waterholes and three barns complete with veterinarians.
