A 63 year-old Chinese man with the last name of Yu, had to undergo several hours of emergency treatment to save his arm and life. Reportedly, Yu had been on a walk after lunch when a neighbor noticed a pit viper outside their house. The pit viper-known as a Chinese copperhead-is also called a "five-pace snake" and sometimes a "hundred-pace snake." This, in honor of the number of steps one can expect to take before succumbing to the snake's venomous bite.
Anyway, my man first wanted to kill the serpent, but then said, "Nah, I think this will be perfect for some snake wine." What is snake wine? I thought you'd never ask. Snake wine is where rice wine or grain alcohol is infused with whole snakes, often still living. In some parts of Asia, its consumption is believed to cure disease, boost vitality, and improve sexual performance. Well, apparently Mr. Snake wanted no part of this process and struck Yu on the wrist when he attempted to capture him.
Two takeaways here: First, when you get bit by a snake while trying capture him for "snake wine," you can be upset, but you can't be surprised. And second, as God as my witness, I'll never make fun of someone drinking Mezcal or Tequila with a worm in the bottom. Just a worm? These idiots are permanently off the hook.
