Randy Travis’ “Storms Of Life” Sees New Life
Country music is cyclical. We’ve been doing this a long time, so we know about that which we speak. Every time, the music gets “too far out there,” an artist comes along to pull it back to its true north. For example, some would argue that a couple of years ago, “Bro Country” was taking over, and then artists like Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, and Ashley McBryde came along to pull it back. Well, in the mid 1980s, many felt country music was in crisis. The movie “Urban Cowboy” had caused a boon and many felt that the music was “too pop,” and no longer was appealing to country’s core audience. And then, a man from Marshville, NC came along with this song.
For many people, Randy Travis’ “On The Other Hand” and the album it came from, “Storms of Life,” saved country music. Well, that was 35 years ago this year. To honor this historic album, the project will be reissued. The anniversary issue will have three new songs on it, and it will be released on September 24th.
