North Carolina is Offering $4 Million in Prizes in COVID-19 Vaccinations Lottery
North Carolina is putting its money where its mouth is, as NC Gov. Roy Cooper announced $4 million in vaccinations lottery prize drawings for COVID-19 vaccine recipients in the state. If this isn’t a big enough reason to get your shot, then I don’t know what is.
Any resident 18 years or older who has had at least one COVID-19 vaccination shot is automatically entered into four different drawings for $1 million cash prizes each. The money comes from the federal government’s Coronavirus Relief Funds distributed to each state.
“This is your shot at a million. Regardless of who wins, there’s no way to lose,” said Governor Cooper. “A chance at a million dollars is pretty good motivation. But even if your name isn’t drawn, the worst you’ll do is get strong protection from a deadly virus.”
Additionally, the state will be awarding four $125,000 tuition prizes to four residents between the ages of 12-17 who get at least their first COVID-19 vaccination. The NC vaccinations lottery contest begins June 23 for both, and any resident who gets their vaccines after June 10 will get double entries into the contest. The drawings will be every other Wednesday, starting with the June 23 jackpot drawing.
“Everyone who gets a COVID-19 vaccination is a winner,” said Dr. Mandy K. Cohen, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. “They protect themselves, their loved ones, and others from severe illness, hospitalization, and death. Millions of people have already taken the vaccines. These summer cash drawings add another reward to the many that come with getting a COVID-19 vaccination.”
North Carolina is one of many states to offer the prizes for COVID-19 vaccinations, as officials seek to remove some of the hesitancy from individuals to get the vaccines.
