I met the beautiful Anne Springs Close a few years ago when my friends and I went there to ride our horses at the Green Way. She was already in her early nineties then and greeted us like we were old friends stopping in for a visit. She was on horseback. Again, in her nineties.
Anne Springs Close is the founder and namesake of a green way that is twice the size of central park in New York City. It is the largest green way in the entire region at well over two thousand acres. Anne Springs grew up on the property and I am not sure of the how what when and where but I do know her family was a major landowner in South Carolina for many years earning their vast fortune primarily in textiles. They are a philanthropic family and extreme nature lovers and decided to share their incredible home and property with the rest of us and we are all the richer for it.
Mrs Close reportedly passed away August 19th according to the green way's website. She reportedly died peacefully in her sleep with her family around her. Anne and her daughter Grace were reportedly hit by a limb that had fallen August 16th but no word if that contributed to her passing.
