Licensed Therapist Reminds Parents What Kids’ Job Is

I have made no secret about how hard my son's leaving for college last fall has been on me.  I love being a dad, and I love being HIS dad.  Not having him around on the regular for me is akin to having the sun always obscured by the clouds.  When those babies first arrive, and people tell you, "Don't blink, before you know it, they're gone," you think they are bananas.  No, they are right.  That being said, THAT'S HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE.   And don't take it from me, listen to an expert.

As unhappy as I am and will probably remain forever at my boy leaving the nest, I would be even more upset if he never did or worse, never tried.  That's his job, after all, as mine was to push him there.
