Winnie Almost Became A Gator Snack

It seems like every week or so we have this story.  Someone is walking their dog along a pond in North Carolina, South Carolina or Florida and the unthinkable happens.  Out of the brackish water comes something that wants to make a snack out of your precious pet.  It is usually followed by the owner wrestling their pet from the jaws of the reptile and hopefully the story ends well.  Sometimes it doesn't.

If it hadn't been for the keen eye of my brother in law Jeff; Winnie and I may have been making those headlines.  My sister Linda has moved to Sunset Beach, North Carolina and for now she is living in a condominium while her house is being built.  Right outside her place is a lovely pond.  Silly me, I wasn't thinking gators.

As we were about to walk near the pond, my brother in law spots an adolescent alligator just lying in wait.  I don't know for sure if he had his eye on Winnie but I wasn't taking any chances.

Here are a few pics starting with a pic of Winnie and a distant "rock" in the pond that wasn't a rock at all.

Stay safe out there friends!
