See, these are my Shelby homegirls. I can think of no better way to highlight Shelby than featuring a few of my childhood besties. That’s right, Shelby is more than just home to Don Gibson and Earl Scruggs, it is also MY hometown and for the past 30 years it has been home to something else.
Shelby is not only known for churning out a couple of country music’s heritage stars, it is also known for its barbecue and also the annual Livermush festival. Shelby has been hosting it for the past 30 years! Last year it had to be canceled but this year it was full steam ahead until…the Delta variant.
According to Emily Epley via the Charlotte Observer, this year’s festival will be virtual. On line you can participate in the livermush cooking contest, a virtual pet costume contest, a virtual arts and crafts show and so much more.
So what IS livermush anyway. Its pureed pigs liver mixed with spices and then bound together with cornmeal. Yum!! Normally the festival bearing its name hosts around 16,000 guests. This years festivities will be in October. To learn more just go right here
Here is a peek into the festival a few years ago.
