In the summer of 1987, I was playing for a US Basketball Team touring Italy for a month and a half. It’s always been funny to me that one of the things I remember most about that trip, was the weekend I spent in New York City before leaving for Milan. Growing up in Texas, going to the movies was like it is here. These buildings with 6-12 theaters is where you went. In NYC, each movie has its own theater, and the one I walked into the night before my flight?
Since then, I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for this movie and its spawns. There have been three “sequels” and a couple of other movies that pitted “The Predator” against the monster from “Alien.” The last of which “The Predator,” was a cool movie, but did not exactly set the box office on fire. So, I just figured the franchise was over. I was wrong.
Jeff Cutter is this movie’s cinematographer. “Skulls” is the title that was being used to throw people off the scent of a sequel. And it’s a wrap in terms of production. Now, in terms of story, this is where this “Predator” is unique. A period movie, this one set during the American Civil War. In other words more than 200 years BEFORE the original. The film is said to tell the story of a Comanche woman who goes against her tribe’s norms to become a great warrior. No word on when this “Predator” will hit screens, but you can bet I’ll be there.
