WASHINGTON, DC - JUNE 20: An installation of 857 empty school desks, representing the number of students nationwide who are dropping out every hour of every school day, is on display at the National Mall June 20, 2012 in Washington, DC. The installation was presented by not-for-profit organization College Board to call upon presidential candidates who are running for the White House to make education a more prominent issue in the 2012 campaigns and put the nation’s schools back on track. Union County Public Schools (UCPS) met this morning to address COVID-19 policies. The meeting is just days after Governor Cooper called out the district as one of five school districts in the state not requiring masks. The UCPS school board voted 8-1 this morning to end contact tracing and the resulting quarantines for any students or staff who are test negative and are asymptomatic. This policy goes into place immediately.

As a result, any students and staff that are not on the COVID-19 positive list and are not showing symptoms can come back to school.
