A new potentially deadly virus has been found in eastern NC. No, not covid. This one is mosquito-borne. The infected insect was found at Fort Fisher, which is near Kure Beach in New Hanover County. The mosquito tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis, EEE for short. EEE was also discovered in two horses one in Pender County and one in Brunswick County. Symptoms of the virus are fever, body aches, and chills. You should take precautions to avoid bug bites such as bug spray and wearing full-coverage clothing.
